A President's Welcome

Hi yall!

My name is Alexandra Trujillo and two years ago, Texas Sweethearts welcomed me into a home that I never knew would change my life the way it did. The women in this organization are truly some of the strongest, most genuine, and supportive women I have ever met. Everyday, I am pushed to become a better version of myself. I am so happy to be able to represent Texas Sweethearts as the Fall 2019 President and give you a glimpse of why it means so much to me.

I am a 3rd year Advertising major from Missouri City, Texas and I joined Texas Sweethearts my first semester of freshman year back in Fall 2017! I started going to UT games in elementary school because my older brother already knew he wanted to come to school here and being the annoying little sister I was, I made it my mission to come here as well. I later grew out of the spite in high school and really fell in love with Austin and the exhilarating atmosphere around campus and decided this is where I was meant to be; however, the thought of having to start a new life in a new city really scared me. Back home in Houston, I had a group of friends that I grew up with since kindergarten and having to leave them and all our memories made me yearn for a place I could call home at such a big school as UT. It wasn’t until at summer orientation that I went to the organization fair on Speedway and saw a mutual friend tabling; like new freshmen do when they see anyone remotely familiar, I approached her table. By fate, she was tabling for Texas Sweethearts. This is where I first heard about the org that would soon be my best collegiate decision to date (shoutout Thao). After learning about Texas Sweethearts, as cliche as it sounds, I knew they had my heart due to the diversity of successful women, the sense of home I feel, and the opportunities I get to share with these powerful people.

As a Venezuelan-American, diversity and inclusiveness is extremely important to me and was something that I was looking for, alongside a support system and a way to give back to the community. During recruitment, I met a diverse group of women from many different backgrounds who gave me the confidence to be my authentic self. Every person that I met at the Smokers was different than the last, but yet there was so much love between everyone. I had that feeling deep in my heart that told me, “this is where I’m supposed to be,” and I truly felt, and still feel, that I found my home.

Texas Sweethearts has given me my best friends, soulmates, and future bridesmaids. These girls are my ~go to a coffee shop to do homework until 3 am, sunset picnics at Zilker, hiking the Greenbelt, and traveling to Europe~ girls. I don’t know where I would be without these amazing women in my life, and I am so thankful that Texas Sweethearts brought so many astonishing women into my life.

To all prospective members, I encourage you to push yourself out of your comfort zone and join us at our recruitment events this fall. I know it can be intimidating, but we are all seriously so excited to get to know you.

I cannot wait to meet you and see you soon, Fall 2019 x

Much love,

Alexandra Trujillo

Fall 2019 President
