Hey Everyone!! My name is Kaileen Calles; I am a senior Neuroscience major from Laredo, Texas, and I am so excited and honored to be the Texas Sweethearts Fall 2022 Recruitment Chair! Texas Sweethearts has not only made UT a home away from home, but has filled my life with so many lifelong friendships, memories, and a copious amount of positivity! I can't wait to show you all how amazing this organization truly is, and what it means to me.
Growing up, UT had always been my dream school, so when I got the opportunity to transfer in from UTSA I knew that it would be the right choice for me. However, as one can imagine, transferring during the peak of COVID was not an ideal situation. As I am sure many others felt, being completely isolated from essentially everyone and everything really put a strain on my mental and physical health, and I slowly started falling into the same routine for the following months. During my first semester here (Fall 2020), there were little to no organizations that I was able to join, and although I made a couple of friends through classes, my first semester here was rough to say the least. I had always envisioned myself joining as many organizations as I could, and being integrated into such a wonderful community, but unfortunately that was not the case. I could not have felt more separated from UT and the students here, so when I saw organizations were recruiting for Spring 2021 I could not have been more excited!
Once Spring 2021 rolled around, I went to as many information sessions for different organizations as I could. As soon as I went to the first event for Texas Sweethearts, I knew that it was the organization for me. All the actives I spoke to made me feel so comfortable to just be myself and I found myself being drawn to each and every aspect of this organization. Going through recruitment, I was initially so overwhelmed, but being surrounded by actives and recruits that have gone through, or are going through the same process I was, really calmed all of my nerves.
Now having just finished my third semester in Texas Sweethearts, I can confidently say that this has been the best thing that has happened to me throughout my college career. I have met so many amazing people that have pushed me to better myself and grow, not just as a person, but as a student, and as a friend. This past year and a half has been so incredibly amazing, and it is all thanks to this amazing organization.
This is why I am so excited for y'all to have a glimpse into our organization, and why I am so honored to be the Fall 2022 Recruitment Chair!! I can not wait to see you all these next couple of weeks! Fall ‘22, we can't wait to meet you!!!
